Couponing and Giving

There are a lot of great benefits to "extreme couponing". Free food. Trying new products and being able to give things to others.
I am routinely giving away food now. Every shopping trip to Publix results in me giving food to family members. And Friday I was able to go to the Food Bank and donate 6 bags full of food- all kinds of things, from rice and baby food to cartons of organic milk (not requiring refrigeration) and of course some bbq sauce. ;)

We do not have a lot of disposable income right now. Ok, we have hardly ANY disposable income, and the fact that we are able to donate to others, despite hardly being able to make ends meet ourselves is an amazing thing indeed- and it feels really good.

I also FINALLY found a place to donate all the Bayer meters I had. I had 51 of them and I took them into my midwives group. They have a clinic where a large percentage of the clientele is hispanic, with no insurance, many of them developing gestational diabetes while pregnant. They were very, very grateful to get these meters to share with the women there, and I was very happy to move them out of my house and into a place that will be able to make good use of them.

  1. I know what you mean by giving food away. We took a huge pay cut since I am now staying at home, not to mention we adopted Caroline so that debt is still there. We used to donate money but now I am able to donate food to the food banks and shelters. Thanks for the tip on the Bayer Meters. I haven't been able to locate a place to donate those to, and never thought about the pregnancy resource center. I'll call them tomorrow.

  2. Bethany- :) I hope they can use your monitors!! Also, I saw your post on ILovepublix with the link to the coupons for the KC Masterpiece. Thanks! I am on my last three of those free KC coupons, and I needed those! :) I am stealing your post and adding it to my blog :D

  3. I don't know if we have a pregnancy center around here. Maybe the health dept. would know. I have alot of those meters, too. I offered one/some/all of them to my uncle and aunt that are diabetics and they were like "oh the meters they'll give you, it's the strips that cost". Um, ok. I take that as a no?

  4. I know giving is one of the best parts of couponing! My mother loves to come to my house to shop!

  5. You're welcome! :) Melissa, I know what you mean by "um ok??". My mom is diabetic and I was so excited to be helping her out. She was grateful but really wanted the strips. She said she already had plenty of meters. Now, we need a sale for free strips!

  6. I totally agree with the generous giving going along with coupon shopping. I'm so grateful to be able to help others in need from our abundant stockpile of food and health and beauty aids. Keep up the good work!
