Publix....cha cha cha changes...

I spoke with the Store Manager at MF store tonight and he indicated that there were some directives coming down from corporate regarding coupons and usage. He indicated that he suspected there would be some changes coming but he didn't have any details yet. The big meeting is Tuesday and I will know more after I speak with him then.

I do know that any stores that were previously allowing three coupons per item will no longer be allowing that effective immediately. You may use one manufacturer coupon per item and one "store" coupon per item, either Publix or competitor.

Anything else I find out I will let you guys know.

  2. Yes that's correct, and true at all Publix stores. One store coupon per item, you can't stack store coupons, the Publix one and the Food Lion one (which is NOT a manufacturer coupon as some blogs are reporting, it is truly a Food Lion coupon)

  3. *Sigh* It seems change is always coming.

Do you know how much "authority" each store manager has regarding enforcing policies from corporate? For example, if Corporate would say only Kroger, Whole Foods & Food Lion are considered competitors, could a store manager choose to allow others at their store (like CVS, Rite Aid or Walgreens)?

  4. Being as it is the beginning of the year, and there are a lot of new couponers, and a higher percentage of fraudulent coupon use (like photocopied ip's), there will probably be a lot of changes, but we can only hope it will change back.

As far as that authority, I know the store manager is the deciding factor in a lot of things, and each store manager decides who they consider competitors. That much I do know. As far as other policies, I would say it depends. In MF's case, Loss Prevention got involved and they were audited (yikes!) based on the high coupon use at that store. They were the only store in the region, so that is going to make a huge impact on the decisions made by the store manager.

  5. So do people start couponing at the start of the year and then trail off? Do they try and save money and then realize that it is so much work and they give up? I have to say I love to coupon but it is a lot of work, but I am so much more organized for it, which my husband loves.

  6. So, is this just something that's happening at the MF store right now? Not a storewide thing? (yet).

  7. Anon- I'm not sure. It might be like losing weight and New Years' resolutions ;) But also, couponing is very in vogue right now. Look at all the blogs that are now out there and even books tht have been published about how to save money by couponing. I think we're at the top of the wave and it will recede soon, hopefully VERY soon! LOL

    Lindsey, no, it's district wide.

I've a call into the District Manager to have a chat with him about some of the changes I've heard rumored and that I think are absolutely ludicrous (from a business standpoint). I really hope he calls me!!

  8. I live in the Chattanooga area and I was advised that they will only take one manufacturer coupon per item and one "store" coupon per item (either Publix or competitor. I will have to check with them since I was not bulk buying items at that time so I am not sure if we have a limit on items.
