Free (at least very, very cheap) Pet Food

If you're like me, you're always looking for a good deal on pet food. We only feed our dogs dry food, so all those cans of mighty dog did me no good (donated them to a shelter here).

Well, found this deal:

Walgreens has the small bags of Purina One cat and dog food on sale for $1.99.
There was a $2/1 Purina Cat Food and a $2/1 Purina Dog Food in the 6.27.10 SS. Both are good on Any Size, Any package.

This was a regional coupon, which we did not get, but I found lots of 20 on Ebay for $1.25 with $.44 shipping. I bought 5 lots of 20, or 100 coupons, for a total of $6.69. I am having the SM at my Wags order 100 bags for me. This should keep my dogs fed for a couple of months at least. If they don't completely freak out over 100, I MIGHT ask them to order 200 and buy more coupons. :D

Because 100 bags of dog food for $5.59 + tax (a penny overage per bag = $1 off the total of 100) is pretty darn good!

I haven't bought any yet, but word is that for whatever reason, this coupon does not beep! (as they usually do, with even a penny over)

  1. It didn't beep at one store, but did at two others.

  2. Hey there,
I just used my coupons today. I bought 6 bags, the first 5 coupons did not beep but the last one scanned did beep. They were wonderful and rounded up the price of the bags to $2.oo each and I was able to use my coupons. I went back in later with my additional coupons (20 of them) and we just did a price modification before we scanned the coupons...and no trouble at all. GOOD LUCK!

  3. T- this is a new product, and I am 99% syre it is a regular price, so the deal will last until the coupons expire :)

Shannon- awesome! So glad to hear about another good store! :) That's usually what happens, the last one beeps (well, at least, once you hit total value of coupons exceeds the total value of items), so it sounds like it might be ymmv on the beeps. My suggestion, if you've not got a GOOD store, when you get to the last one, just say, oh, I must have gotten one extra, oops! And have them remove one bag. Just make sure you buy something else to cover the pennies overage. :)

This would also make a great donation item to local shelters if you don't have pets, but do have these q's. ;)

  6. Deena- tthe qs usually come pretty quickly- three or four days after you pay. I have heard great things about the wags at the corner of bell rd and blue hole rd.

  7. Has anyone found the cat food at this price? I've been to 4 Walgreens in the Nashville area and only found the dog food.

  8. Where do you find the small bags? I've stopped at 2 different stores & looked in the pet aisle. I only see bags for $6. Help!! :)

  9. Tara, my store has the cat food too. Of course, now the SM tells me it is not only new, but also being discontinued as well! So I don't know if you'll be able to find it readily.

I *think* you can check your store's inventory at Wags' website, but I've never tried it before.

  11. Thanks, I'll try the online inventory thing.

Jennifer -- I found the small dogfood bags hanging on a strip in the petfood aisles. They're small bags, and can easily be mistaken for treats or something else.

  13. My store had them on the top shelf in the pet aisle and on an endcap. I will be looking for a place to use the rest of my q's since my store couldn't get any more in!
