That's right folks, the Bayer Meter coupon is back!

For those just starting this coupon thing- you may not know but this is a great coupon. It allows for "Up to $30 off" any Bayer Contour or Breeze 2 monitor (for diabetics).

These guys periodically have good money-making deals at Wags and CVS. The best one was at Wags. The monitors were $9.99 and you got $10rr for each one you bought! (free after rr). Well, buy one monitor, use your coupon and get it free, (only pay tax) and out pops a $10rr!!

The $10rr was more rare, but they seem to have $5 rr/ecb deals about once every 6 weeks or so.

I will be buying a lot of papers this weekend. And hitting the recycle bin. Several of them. (Lindsey, it might be time for me to come take a peek in the one you visit! :) )

What to do with the monitors? Donate them. I donated 52 monitors to the midwifery group I went to to deliver my children. They have a clinic in a low-income area where many of the moms are uninsured and they were thrilled to get these for the Moms who are diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes, and I was thrilled that I could give them to a group that I felt good about. (Love my midwifery group)

Here's a great printable coupon for the CVS shoppers. Might make a good deal at some Publix stores as well with the coupon in the adv. buy flyer, depending on the price at your store.

Getting started...at CVS

Here are some basic rules for CVS:
CVS uses a loyalty card. Limits are set based on card purchase. Get yourself a CVS card and use it with every transaction. This is how you earn special promotional discounts and Extra Care Bucks (ecb's).
ECB's print out at the bottom of your receipt. ECB's are like cash and can be used on anything (except the usual excluded items, alcohol, tobacco, etc). You can roll them into your next deal, including the same item (unlike Walgreens). You can buy one thing, get an ecb, turn around and use that ecb on the same thing. Since CVS uses a loyalty card system and can limit the amount of "deals" you get per card, they don't have to worry about all the catalina hijinks that Walgreens has to do with not being able to use an rr to get an rr for the same product, etc.
After I do my first transaction, I use the edge of the counter to tear off my ecb's from the bottom of the receipt and then use them in the next transaction- or if I'm on the last transaction, I put the ecb in my CVS envelope so I know where it is. (those receipts tend to get lost)

This is not a great week to start at CVS.

So I'll tell you this- If you're starting out, and will be near a CVS, go ahead and stop in and get a CVS card. Register with it online and enter an email address and they will email you a $4/$20 coupon.

Publix and CVS

I made my weekly Publix run and then went to CVS. Both trips were awesome! Cvs was a moment of- oh MAN! If only I carried every coupon everywhere- they had mega packs of Pampers and Huggies clearanced for $4.00!!! And I have coupons for both- AT HOME. *sigh*. So I paid the grand whopping total of $4 per pack for 12 packs. Maybe I'll go back with some q's and see if they'll adjust. Worst they can say is no, right?

I filled up one grocery cart and needed another so I walked to the front with it and asked Jim (one of the asst mgrs) if I could leave it at register one (unmanned) while I finished up. He said "sure!" and got another cart for me. I filled up cart two (well, about halfway. LOL) and walked up there where one of my fave cashiers was on self checkout. I went to get my basket and asked her if someone could help me take the other one over to reg.3. She said, "well, hang on." and went to talk to Jim. Then she went and got a drawer and opened up the register for me! Jim jumped on self-checkout. This was an AWESOME trip! I saw all my favorite managers- Jim and Mary and I chatted about retail, coupons and such. Jim asked me if I taught a coupon class (meanwhile he was punching in his override code. LOL). I said no, but had considered it. (If anyone out there is interested in having me do so, let me know! I've been looking for a place to have one.). Everyone was super-nice, I did GREAT, and had a great shopping trip overall. I did get a bunch of rainchecks (seemed like a lot of items on my list I wanted flavors that were already sold out) but that's all good. I'm ok with that.

It's all about the timing, part 2

I decided to head back to Publix today (even though it's an hour away) because those darn Method products I saw on clearance yesterday were weighing on my mind.


I had $2/1 mq's and $1/1 Whole Foods q's to give overage on each one. I made my list and hoped that they would still be there. My kids were up early this morning, so we loaded up and headed to Publix. Lo and behold- a whole shelf of them! YAY! I wanted them for gift baskets anyway. . . 14 total items. I took both my kids and they were very well-behaved (ok, I bribed my four-year old with Moe's, I admit it) and enjoyed their balloons. I also saw the store manager and we talked for a while, along with two other managers. It was good to have a few minutes to talk with them when the store was kind of quiet. The only cashier at the time was one that I've had trouble with before on overage (one of the very few at this store) so I waited a little to see if anyone else would clock in, and then the line backed way up, so I asked the managers if there were other cashiers and two of the managers jumped on register, one of them checking me out. :) Makes it so much easier.

I did forget to include my $1/1 Guiding Stars FLip, which would have made my total $.33. Rats.

***Note: I have mentioned before, but will say again, I had a raincheck that was issued while the $3/1 FLip was valid (it has since expired). Store management at this store will allow me to use the expired q's on the products from during the raincheck cycle since I was unable to purchase the items when I had the valid coupons. It never hurts to ask if your store will allow this.
***The Glad Fire Up the Grill coupon was from a Keith Urban flyer I picked up at my store a month-ish ago which expires 9/30/09. (This was a four page brochure that was black and red, there are also $3/1 Charcoal q's, $1/1 KC Masterpiece q's and $1/1 Hidden Valley Ranch q's in this brochure)
***The Pam coupons were hangtags I traded for that had a picture of the Pam Grilling Spray but said any Pam cooking spray (I double checked to make sure I was getting the right thing). The Grilling Spray was actually cheaper at my store $3.19 I think? But I wanted the Olive Oil one.

Then I went to CVS, but a lot of the things i wanted were already out of stock, so I had to get rainchecks. I NEEDED more Robitussin and Thermacare patches, so I didn't get a GREAT deal, but I got a good deal. But the BEST deal I snagged was due to the 75% clearanced summer items. I happened to go in when they marked down the patio furniture. There was a nice glass-tempered table/chairs set regularly priced $129.99, that was 75% off. Plus I had $10ecbs. So I got the set for $25.50!! This is less than what we bought our plastic chairs/table for.

I am pretty excited about my deals today. :)

I was towing around a poor sick baby so I finally gave up and called it a day even though I wanted to go back to the Belle Meade Kroger one more time (they were very well-stocked, the other store ...not so much).

Did two transactions here, to make sure I made full value of my ecoupons and mega event. I did just realize, however that two of my coupons did not ring up properly- it was the ones that were $.50/2 or whatever. It only doubled to the price of one. Grr. That amounted to around $3 total. Today was a long day! We started out at 7:45am and headed into Nashville. The kids had a portrait appt at 9:10am and then a dr appt at 11am. After having their pictures taken, we went over to the CVS that is practically within walking distance of their doctor's office. I wanted to get some of the photo books and my soyjoys I had a raincheck for. I was hoping that CVS would be out of the book covers so I could have more time to add pics and get a raincheck, but alas, when you want something to be out of stock, they have plenty. So I did my books, but was hoping to be able to buy some time. They still came out decent.
After the dr's appointments (all well! N had two vaccines and Z had one, and no crying from either of them!) we went to Whole Foods to get some Mambo Sprouts booklets and then lunch, then Publix for the week.

Publix was good! I got two more gas cards which messed up my normal low oop's, but other than those two cards, I had 100% savings. I'll list the items below, but keep in mind my oop includes two $50 gas cards. :)
Interestingly, I discovered that the gas cards are being limited to two per person (with the original coupon). I don't believe there was a limit on them when the original ad came out, so that's kind of messed up, but I was able to get the two I wanted, so no big deal. I had planned on one with some overage, but the other I decided spur of the moment, so it upped my oop. I could have gotten more overage, but I didn't want to use up all my good q's. I also had an odd thing happen- for the second transaction, my last coupon scanned was for the Bic Mechanical pencils. It was a $.50/1 coupon and I had two of them, the first one scanned and automatically doubled. When the second one scanned, it automatically doubled, but instead of taking off $.50, it took off $.26. (huh?) The pencils were $1 so it wasn't like it was doubling up to product sale price. It was weird. manager finally just scanned it again (so I got an additional $.76 off my total), and said don't worry about it. Very odd.
