OR, alternately, you might want to hang onto those Kraft mayo q's for the big moneymaker at Publix!! :)

Unadvertised Bogo at Publix = Moneymaker!

More on my Publix deals later, but I found this:

Kraft Sandwich Shop mayo $1.99 BOGO
-$1/1 mq 6.13.10 SS
-$1/1 Publixq Yellow Flyer
=$1 overage each!

I didn't know this was going to ring up bogo- it wasn't marked at ALL, I was buying them b/c they were free, and at the end, I wondered why my total was so low. I didn't think I had that much overage! I reviewed my receipt and found that the mayo is ringing up bogo! Awesome!!

My deals today, Walgreens

So, as any of you Walgreens shoppers know, the socks reward wasn't printing this morning. It didn't mess me up today, since I was wanting to roll my $10rr's and not use the $3rr's right away, so the manager said I could come back on Wednesday (when she works next) so that I can get my rr's for the socks I bought. I did go ahead and get them b/c I wanted them for Christmas baskets- they are soooo soft. Plus I wanted a few pair for myself, and Natalya had laid claim to a pink-striped pair. :)

I am VERY lucky that my store is awesome and will push through beeping coupons, allowing overage. I love them.

Started with $82.50 in rr's

Walgreens
6 Kotex U 3/$10, earn free movie ticket code wyb 3
12 Airplus Socks $3.00, earn $3rr
7 Flexitop Blistop $5.00, earn $5rr
7 Blistex $2.99, earn $3rr
12 Newspapers $1.19
6 Oral-B TB $4.99
3 Cottonelle Fresh Wipes $1.99 w/in-adq
2 Cracker/cheese dippers $1.00
1 Can sliced peaches $.79
52 Dentyne gum (just realized she rang up an extra one, and shorted me a coupon, but I'm not worried about it. ;) )
1 Dawn Dish Detergent $.99

Total tax: $18.18
Total oop, cash spent: $26.32
Total rr's spent: $5

RR's leftover: $96.50 (including the $36 owed to me for my socks. :) )
Also earned 2 Free Movie tickets (from Kotex deal) and 2 "Free" Always pads catalinas

My deals today, Rite Aid

I made several runs today, two trips to my Walgreens and one each to the two Rite Aids near me.

Rite Aid
I was very, VERY disappointed that our Short ad was missing most of the great deals for the week. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooo Short ad!
Anyway, I did get a bunch of great deals, but it was a lot of the same items, and not a variety of deals like I had planned.
I tossed in a few gift cards into my transactions and paid using some of the $10 up+ rewards I had earned. I wasn't sure if it would let me and wanted to try it out. Worked perfectly, no problems. I don't know if you'd be able to just buy gift cards and pay with Up+, but it certainly worked in a larger transaction.

I gotta say, Rite Aid is fast becoming my favorite drugstore, followed by Walgreens with CVS running a far distant third.

Bought:
21 John Frieda Sheer Blonde $5/ea
15 John Frieda Root Awakening $5/ea
10 Benadryl $4.94 (with 10% wellness discount)
4 Crest ProHealth $2.99
20 Stayfree $3.99 bogo
24 Pretzel M&M's $.88 bogo {these are quite yummy!!}
3 Clearasil $4.94 (with 10% wellness discount)
1 Dasani $1.34 (with 10% wellness discount)
1 Snapple $1.07 (with 10% wellness discount)
2 Lays chips $3.99 bogo
1 20oz Mt Dew $1.43 {and might I just note that this went up in price AGAIN! to$1.59- that is INSANE for a measly 20oz drink}
1 $25 Amazon Gift Card
1 $15 Starbucks Gift Card
1 $20 Subway Gift Card

Total tax: $22.95
Total oop: $20.87 (on RA gift card)
Total Up+ rewards spent: $86.00
Grand Total spent: $106.87

Total Up+ Rewards leftover: $40
Total SCR's earned: $11.96, $49.40 toward my next allergy certificate ($75 needed)

Check your cat stash

I just sorted through some Wags catalinas and found three $2/1 Cottonelle flushable wipes cats (not totally sure when I got them), There's an in-ad q for $1.99 for the tubs, making them a penny overage with in-adq and cat!

Crazy drugstore deals: Rite Aid

Well. It wasn't as crazy as it could have been because I'm in the short ad area which royally sucks this week. :( There are still a few great deals, but not as many!!

Rite Aid
Ever since the UP reward program started, I've had trouble with q's and beepage at RA. Today I discovered that if I have a bogo and a $/$$ coupon for an item, I need to hand over the $/$$ first, then the bogo, since the bogo will beep anyway, when I handed the bogo first, it would not accept the $/$$. I also had a lot of trouble with the Up+ certs, telling me that "$.xx more needs to be added to transaction to use coupon", even if my total was over $16! I don't know WHAT is giong on with these things. I hope they fix the glitches soon!!

John Frieda: 4/$20, earn $10 Up+ wyb 4!!!
-$3/1 Root Awakening mq
-$2/1 Any JF product mq
-$1/1 Sheer Blonde VVq

Crest Pro-Health $2.99, earn $2.99 SCR

Stayfree BOGO $3.99
-BOGO mq 6.27.10 RP
-$1/1 mq 4.25.10 SS (exp 6.30)
-$1/1 VVq (exp 6.30)

So, here's what one of my transactions looked like:
Buy
4x John Frieda Root Awakening 4/$20
2x Stayfree 32ct (24+8bonus size) $3.99 bogo
=$23.99

-$5/20
-4x $3/1 JF Root Awakening
-$1/10 Haircare RA coupon
-Stayfree bogo = $3.99
-2x Stayfree $1/1 VVq
-$1/1 mq 4.25.10 SS

All retailers that received these products are being notified.

Are the products involved in the recall safe for consumption?
Consumers should not eat the recalled products because they do not meet our quality standards. A few consumers have experienced temporary symptoms, including nausea and diarrhea. Consumers with concerns should consult their health care provider.

Saving money on vacation

While planning my family vacation I tried to save money on every possible thing I could. Some of the things we did were specific to themeparks, but here are some suggestions for your vacation planning!

To me, the most expensive part of vacation is food. So, we planned on taking most of our food. We took bottled Vitamin-Waters, three 4pks of Starbucks Doubleshots (for the drive!), a case of Mt Dew, and two cases of bottled water so we didn't have to buy drinks as well as food for lunches and snacks: cheese sticks, lunchmeat (veggie :) ), yogurt tubes (frozen), carrots, Crunchpak apples, peanut butter, jelly, bread, chips, crackers, Lance cracker packs, trail mix, Gerber Graduates snacks for my 19 month-old, etc. All these things I bought over time, using overage, so very little out of pocket expenses.

This is what my van looked like after I packed the double stroller, cases of water and food/snacks. I still had to load in the luggage. ;) The banker boxes are labeled "snacks", "lunches" and "road food". There's also a small bin of sunscreen. lol.

We own a cooler that plugs in to the outlet in the back of our van (you can see it on the left in the above picture, which was purchased for DH when he was an over-the-road trucker), which comes in very handy for trips! If you do a lot of driving, I highly recommend one. The one we have is a Coleman PowerChill Thermoelectric Cooler (40-Quart)
and while it doesn't keep things ICE cold, It is waaay better than continually buying ice and worrying about things getting ruined by sitting in water when the ice melts. It kept our drinks, yogurt tubes, cheese sticks and fruit cold enough, and was perfect for our road trip. :)

The first portion of our trip was planned at a Bed and Breakfast, so a pancake breakfast was included, and we specifically chose a Bed and Breakfast with a large kitchen for the guests. We were able to use the stove/fridge to cook/heat anything we brought! Once there, we shopped at Publix for eggs and fresh fruit to add to our breakfasts. Of course I used overage at Publix to buy those things. :)

For dinner, I purchased several Restaurant.com certificates at 80% off. I didn't know if these restaurants would be good, or even open, but the idea was at $2/ea, even if we didn't use all four, we still came out way ahead! We ended up using one of the four, and saved $17, after factoring in the cost of the four certs. The first B&B we stayed at was in a fairly touristy town, and they gave us a booklet of coupons when we checked in- we were able to use several coupons out of that booklet for meals while there.

We also bought a BOGO coupon for one of the restaurants on Tropicana Rewards, which, if you haven't signed up for, I highly recommend.

When we ate out for dinner, we had plenty of leftover, enough so that one evening, we all had repurposed leftovers in the B&B Dining Room/Kitchen for dinner.

For activities, in the first city, St Augustine, we did a lot of "tourist" attractions and walking around. I used a bogo trolley coupon at Tropicana Rewards to save $22, and that was our transportation for the entire time we were there! The trolley took us anywhere we wanted to go and the kids loved riding the "train". (entertainment in itself).

Of course, the beach was free. :)

Once we moved onto Orlando, we stayed at the Doubletree on the Disney resort. I signed up at Mousesavers.net for the monthly email, which has discounts. I was able to get a 35% discount on the room, and free breakfast. Included at the hotel was a bus to the Disney properties, so we saved money on parking at the themeparks ($12 a day!!).

We weren't able to find discounted Disney tickets, so that was the one thing we paid full price for *gasp* but had we been buying 5-7-day tickets, we could have gotten a discount, but we weren't there that long.

Again, food was the most expensive item, so we packed in all our food to the parks. All the Disney parks allow you to bring in food (Hollywood Studios does not, but as far as I can tell, all others do). We filled a large backpack, packing frozen bottled water in the bottom, then a container on top of that with cheeses, yogurt, lunchmeats, etc. On top of that were pb&j sandwiches and crackers and other snacks. We splurged on a few treats, like popcorn and an ice cream/smoothie, but we saved a TON of money by not buying park food. (Plus we ate way healthier!) (A bottle of water is $3.75 at the park!)

For dinner the first night in Orlando, I went over to a salad/sandwich place across the street to get a large takeout salad, while the kids and DH swam at the hotel pool. I paired the salad with leftovers from an Italian restaurant we ate at in St Augustine, for a cheap meal! I paid under $7 for the salad, and we all ate off that and the leftover spaghetti.

Another thing I would watch out for are any deals offered by gas stations, and Facebook deals. At the beginning of April, Pilot Gas Stations had a "Free" 32 oz drink coupon on Facebook. I printed a few of these and took them with us- that way if we needed a drink, or wanted a treat, we could stop at a Pilot and get a fountain drink (and we did a few times) for free.

The other expense incurred on road trips? Fuel. So over the course of a few months, I purchased BP gas cards at Publix when they offered the deal on those (with overage in some cases) and took those with us. We didn't pay a penny on the trip for fuel. We used four $50 gas cards on the trip and still had one leftover when we got back. Yes, we paid for the cards, but we paid in advance, so I didn't have to worry about having enough money for fuel on the trip (plus I used some overage for a couple of them, so was able to save a little bit more!).

I hope this helps give you some ideas about thinking outside the box when planning your vacation! If you have any questions about our trip, shoot! :)

Oh, another idea would be to go sign up at Entertainment Book.com - when you sign up, you can print out coupons for things in all cities, not just your city (which is what you'd have if you purchased a book for your area). Right now, it's $4.95/month, and you'd only need one month to print coupons for your trip. ;) Go HERE to get an online membership. And, when you buy a book, you also can sign up for free to print out deals from other cities. HERE to activate your book. So that might be worth checking out. :)

Walgreens, Rite Aid, Target and Wal-Mart (yes, I went to Wal-Mart!)

Made the rounds yesterday. It was weird driving around and buying stuff, putting things into a small car (I'm driving a loaner while my van is in the shop). It really zips around, but I miss my van!

I made my usual Walgreens and Rite Aid Sunday run, but also hit up Target and Wal-Mart for a few deals. I'll be going back to Target for more Sobes! I love those things.

Nashville Publix shoppers near Nippers Corners

I have found that there are random items that are WAY cheaper at Nippers Corners than other Publix stores (no clue why).

Yesterday I was desperate to get some Mott's Medleys juice since it was free+ with the Publix and mq from Sunday's paper. I had already gotten two rainchecks at MF, one Friday and one yesterday) so I ran to Nippers to see if they had them in stock.
Well. Not only did they have them in stock, they are only $2.09 bogo instead of $2.79 bogo!
So I got $.95 overage for each one! (no problems with the overage either *whew*) I was doing the happy dance all the way to my car!

So if you are still looking for juice, might want to go there. Or if you need rainchecks, or need a cheap place to USE your raincheck- head there!

Keeping up with mail-in-rebates?

Allright, so I might be the coupon queen, but I am the WORST when it comes to keeping up with mail in rebates. I buy the items with the intention of sending them in, then I either misplace the receipts, forget to cut out the upc codes, or some combination of the above.

So, does anyone have any good tips for keeping these together? I have tried several different methods and they are really not working. I am going to lose out on two Olay rebates of $20 each and two Swiffer rebates of $10 each because I can't find receipts/ forms/ upc codes. UGH! That's $60!!!

I can't wait to see what you guys have!

Great deals on Eco-friendly items~including diapers!

Are you swagging yet? If you haven't yet joined Swagbucks, now might be the time. There are some high-value sbucks to be found and a new gift card available!

I was thrilled to see this:
$5 gc to Theecoluxelife.com store for only 115 swagbucks! (a $5 gift card to Amazon is $420 bucks, for comparison)
This store seems to have everything organic that you can imagine. I have been wanting some new cloth wipes and a stainless steel bottle/cup for my son, so I am currently browsing the offers they have.

They have tons of items, including Seventh Generation diapers for $18.99. So with 460 swagbucks, you could get a free pack of diapers! It doesn't take long at all to build them up either.
Discovered there is a minimum $20 purchase and only one gc per transaction! Still a nice deal, but not as good as free with this site. :( Sorry guys!!!

If you're a cloth diaperer at heart, like I am, they also have ecobaby fitteds for only $15.99! That is an incredible deal! Especially if you're trying to build a stash with limited funds. Use your swagbucks to reduce the cost of something you're already buying!

You just can't beat free, and Swagbucks is FREE money. :)

Rite Aid's crazy deals get crazier

If you're not a regular Rite Aid shopper then you'll be even more confused, since I certainly am.

Rite Aid has a new program called Up+, that is working like CVS ecb's and Walgreens' rr's. This is a coupon that prints out at the bottom of your receipt when you buy participating "deals/products". It can be used toward anything in the store, including on the same deal. It is tied to your wellness card in that you must scan your card to get the deal, but as of now there are no limits, unlike CVS. But it is apparently keeping track of your purchases, since it seems you don't have to purchase all items in one transaction to get the deal.

For example: (This deal might only be good in the "test" cities.)
Huggies diapers are $11.99 regular priced. There is a deal going on through 6/13 where if you buy three packs of diapers, you will get a $11.99 up+ reward coupon. You don't have to get all three of these at once. So you can purchase them in separate transactions and after the third one is bought, it will print the reward.

As far as I am concerned, this is the best of both worlds of ecb's and rr's. no limits, and you can roll them into themselves.

Awesome!

But Rite Aid is going crazy with the deals and programs. So confusion may set in. Just get all your ducks in a row before you go shopping and you should be fine!

High Value Pampers coupon

As many of you have noticed, there is a super high value Pampers wipes coupon in the paper today. It is for $2 off any 60+ct pack of Pampers wipes. This is one of those coupons you can use now to get free wipes, or you can hang onto a few in hopes of a mm somewhere.

Currently Free at:
Walmart: $1.97 on rollback

Super cheap:
Target: $2.39 on sale
Rite Aid: $2.49, used with other items and a $5/20= free
Walgreens: $2.50

I would suspect there will be more deals on these somewhere before they expire.

Word is out that some of the big packs of Pampers wipes are included in the clearance baby items at CVS as well, so you may be able to score a free big pack of wipe refills there- just price check.

Vacation fun

In the meantime, here's a few pics of my family from vacation :)

Thanks for reading and keeping up with the deals!

And finally, a picture of our yummy pirate pancakes from our stay at the Pirate Haus Inn in St Augustine, Fla.

Back from vacation

Whew! Sorry for the absence. :) We went on vacation last week, took the kids to the beach in St Augustine, Fl and to Disney World. We had a blast, and I'm working on a post on saving money for vacations, but I wanted you all to know that I am still alive. lol.

Want a free Juno baby DVD?

I was lucky enough to be one of the first 250 people enrolled in "Heard it from a Mom" to get the free Juno Baby DVD. I can now pass it forward (supplies are limited though). If anyone would like me to pass it forward to you, you will receive a free DVD while supplies last.

Email me your name and email address and I will submit it for a free DVD.

Yay!

My nearly-5 year old and my 19 month old both love this video- my son loves the music and my daughter struck up a conversation all about what not to be afraid of, and how you should try new things (what the video is about :) ). Not to mention, even my husband was walking around singing about getting a haircut. lol. It's pretty catchy. ;)
